Anti-Doping Information

Important human anti-doping information and educational resources for all athletes and team managers participating at GOTHENBURG HORSE SHOW 2026.

Information for Athletes

As an equestrian athlete, fair play and integrity are just as essential as skill, stamina, and precision. Fostering clean sport matters just as much as your sporting achievements. Competing clean is a priority, and we are here to work with you to help you understand your human anti-doping rights and responsibilities.

We recommend that as a participant, you complete ADEL for International Level Athletes' Education. The e-learning takes approximately 60 minutes, and you will receive a certificate after course completion. It provides an overview of the human anti-doping program and includes important information such as roles and responsibilities and the TUE application process. The course is available in twenty-nine different languages.

The International Testing Agency (ITA), who is supporting the FEI, have provided the following tips and links for you to learn more:

1

Check your medications

Some medications are prohibited in sport, including both prescription and over the counter medications. Some are also prohibited in certain doses, by certain routes of administration or in certain sports. Always carefully check the status of any medication you use in accordance with WADA's list of Prohibited Substances and Methods.

2

A reminder on recreational drugs

Recreational drugs including cannabis, amphetamines, MDMA, heroin, and cocaine are prohibited in-competition and must have left your system by the start of this period. Some recreational drugs can remain in your system for an extended period after use. Be aware of the risk and make informed decisions.

3

Make informed decisions about supplements

Using supplements is risky. There is no guarantee that any supplement is free from prohibited substances due to potential contamination or mislabelling.

4

Know about Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUE)

You may need to take a prohibited substance or use a prohibited method for health reasons. You may be granted a TUE, which permits you to use a prohibited substance or method within the context of sport regulations if strict conditions are met.

5

Know where to report doping in sport

REVEAL is the ITA's human anti-doping reporting platform where you can report any suspicious behaviour in a confidential and anonymous manner. Your information may help uncover doping and protect athletes' right to clean and fair competition.

6

Know what to expect if you are tested

The ITA Athlete's Guide to Testing provides core information about the human doping control process, including athlete rights and responsibilities, the difference between urine and blood sample collection and how to complete the Doping Control Form.

7

In-competition period: Commences one (1) hour before the beginning of the first Horse inspection the day before a Competition in which the Athlete/rider is scheduled to participate through to the end of the last Competition at the Event for that Athlete/rider or the sample collection process related to such Competition.

Information for Chefs d'Equipe / Team Managers

As a Signatory of the World Anti-Doping Code, the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) is responsible for implementing an effective and Code-compliant human anti-doping program for events under its jurisdiction.

In alignment with the principle of the International Standard for Education (ISE), which emphasises that an athlete's first experience with anti-doping should be through education rather than doping control, we strongly encourage you to ensure that all athletes in your team receive education prior to the event.
